Winter tips for scratching and allergies.

Winter tips for scratching and allergies.

February 16, 2016

The seasons changing can be tough times for scratchers.

Some tips and things to be mindful of as we head into winter:

  • Be careful of home humidity – Too dry or damp.

    • Heat pumps and air conditioning can really dry the air out.
    • Drying clothes inside, cooking and showering without adequate ventilation can cause dampness and allow mold growth
    • Air the house out for at least 10 min a day
  • Keep up water drinking

  • Apply moisturiser regularly to keep a barrier on the skin

  • Resist the temptation to have really hot showers or baths as

these strip the skin's natural oils.

    • Try bathing in the evening but still moisturise both morning and night.
    • Night time bathing keeps a better barrier to protect you for the day
    • It also reduces allergens being brought into the bed on the skin and hair
  • Keep talking to family and friends if it is a difficult time for you.

Hopefully, these help make this time easier.
